What types of events do you provide sound production services for?

We provide live sound equipment and services for a variety of events including backyard concerts, house parties, and corporate events as well as small clubs, cafes, restaurants and art galleries.

What is your approach to live sound production/engineering?

We are personally involved with getting the best sound for your event. From setting up to sound check to live performance and breakdown, we work to make sure your performers and your audience are all satisfied.

What type of equipment do you use?

While the exact equipment varies depending on the type of event, room and music, we primarily use QSC K Series powered speakers for mains and monitors, Shure microphones, and Midas or Behringer digital mixers. The equipment is all top of the line and in excellent working condition.

What if I go over the 3 hour time for the sound engineer?

Set up and breakdown are not counted toward the 3 hour time limit. Overtime is charged at the rate of $150 per hour (or potion of an hour) for all packages if you need more than 3 hours.

What if I have more than one performer / musical act?

In most circumstances, we don't charge extra for additional artists, but that can vary. For example, if you have a night planned with three or four singer-songwriters who just need sound for vocals and guitar or piano, we won't charge anything additional. The bigger and more complicated the setup, and the more changes that need to occur during the event, the more likely it is that we will charge additional amounts. Contact us to discuss your exact needs.

How do your rates compare to other live sound companies?

Our rates are highly competitive and, in most cases, lower than other companies that just rent you the gear and let you worry about pickup, delivery and controlling the sound. If you need the ease and convenience of delivery, setup and a personal sound engineer, Moodtown Sound is the clear choice. Here are just a few examples:

Orlans Audio Video and Lighting, Band Package 2 - $460. This is the rough equivalent of our Singer-Songwriter Package, but without a sound engineer and still $10 more.
LA Sound Rental, Audio Package 2 - $775 ($425 for equipment rental and $350 delivery and setup fee). This package is similar to our Executive Package, but without a sound engineer and is $450 more expensive.
ShareGrid - About $250. You could piece together the rough equivalent of our Singer-Songwriter Package through ShareGrid for less money but you'd have to pick up the equipment in four different places in LA, and there's no setup, breakdown, or sound engineer.
Los Angeles Audio Rentals, Basic Sound Package Plus - Up to $225. This package is similar to our Executive Package but without delivery and setup or a sound engineer.

What are your payment terms?

We require a 75% deposit up front, with the remaining 25% charged automatically upon completion of the event.

Can I cancel before the event?

You can cancel at any time prior to your event, but an early cancellation fee may apply as follows:

30 days or more prior to event - full refund
20 to 29 days prior to event - 25% cancellation fee
10 to 19 days prior to event - 50% cancellation fee
5 to 9 days prior to event - 75% cancellation fee
Less than 5 days prior to event - full package fee is due

What methods of payment do you accept?

Venmo, Paypal, and Zelle are our preferred payment methods.

Which areas in Los Angeles do you service?

We typically provide services in LA's Westside, as defined by the LA Times' Mapping LA project. This includes Santa Monica, Venice, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Culver City, Marina del Rey, Bel-Air, and Beverly Hills. Depending on the circumstances and nature of the event, we can provide services in other LA areas including Malibu and West Hollywood - just ask!
